The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recorded a remarkable turnout in the ongoing registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), registering a total of 1,290,715candidates within just 19 days.
According to JAMB’s weekly bulletin published on Monday, the registration figures have been consistent:
📌 201,867 candidates registered in the first week
📌 560,025 candidates registered in the second week
📌 528,823 candidates registered in the third week
This year’s UTME registration, which commenced on Monday, 3rd February, will remain open until Saturday, 8th March.
JAMB’s Investment in CBT Centres
To facilitate a smooth registration process, JAMB has paid a total of N903.5 million to Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the country. The payments were structured as follows:
✔️ N141 million in the first week
✔️ N392 million in the second week
✔️ N370 million in the third week
This investment highlights JAMB’s commitment to improving the UTME experience by ensuring the availability of quality infrastructure for candidates.
UTME: The Road to Tertiary Education
Each year, JAMB registers an average of 1.5 million candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. In 2024, a total of 1.9 million candidates sat for the UTME, but 76% scored below 200 out of the maximum 400 marks, sparking conversations about exam preparedness and the quality of education.
New Initiative: UTME Mock Trial for Underage Students
One of the biggest innovations this year is the introduction of the UTME Mock Trial, designed for students below the official age of 16 who are ineligible to take the UTME. This initiative allows younger students to familiarize themselves with the examination format and prepare ahead of their actual UTME when they reach the required age.
This move aligns with the Federal Ministry of Education’s directive, which set 16 years as the minimum age for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
