The National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance has absolved the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of allegations of fund misappropriation in its 2024 budget implementation.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Chairperson of the committee, Sani Musa, clarified that initial accusations of reckless spending by JAMB were unfounded. He emphasized that a thorough review of the documents provided by the examination body revealed no evidence of mismanagement.
The allegations included claims of N1.1 billion spent on meals and N850 million on fumigation. However, JAMB’s registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, provided detailed explanations during the budget defense session, which the committee initially overruled. Following a request for a comprehensive report, JAMB submitted documentation detailing its 2024 and 2025 budget appropriations and expenditures.
Mr. Sani commended the examination body’s leadership, stating:
“The comprehensive report provided by JAMB indicated that the line items mentioned during Monday’s hearing on revenue did not suggest any mismanagement or misuse of the board’s funds. On the contrary, the report highlighted the responsible and prudent use of resources under the leadership of the registrar.”
The National Assembly’s exoneration reinforces JAMB’s commitment to transparency and accountability under the guidance of its registrar, Mr. Oloyede. This milestone serves as a testament to the board’s dedication to excellence in managing educational processes and resources.
